About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide financial, accounting, and business management analytical support to management and customers
- Develop budgets for supported functions
- Evaluate and report O&M and capital budget variances and year-end projections
- Support regional reporting and explain business and variance impacts
- Compile and analyze statistical data to identify errors and evaluate content
- Prepare, check, and post journal entries and accruals as needed
- Perform account reconciliations
- Interface with the zone regarding financial policies and procedures
- Collaborate with peer analysts to improve work processes and efficiencies
- Support cost-reimbursable spending for construction, solar, and highway/DOT projects
- Analyze cost-pool charging and O&M/capital splits for policy compliance and reasonableness
- Develop understanding of work management systems and accounting mappings for work orders
- Prepare financial schedules for monthly and quarterly Corporate Accounting requests
- Work with internal and external auditors
- Assist with SOX documentation updates and management testing
- Maintain knowledge of accounting policies and impacts
- Address customer needs and own issues through resolution
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another related degree
- Financial Analyst I: 1+ year of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degree
- Financial Analyst II: 2+ years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in a related field in addition to degree
- Fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
- Experience with financial applications such as PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, and/or WebI
- Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Must live within a reasonable commute of the designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Travel required 5%–15% of the time
- Monday-Friday, 5 days of 8-hour shifts
- Overtime may be required during closing, budgeting, and process rollout periods
