About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support all phases of major projects from initial project scoping and development through final project close-out
  • Support development of major project scope and EPC bid packages
  • Support interconnection design with Transmission and ensure project contract documentation aligns with interconnection scope
  • Support cost estimates, schedules, risk analysis, bid evaluation, and contract development
  • Provide engineering oversight for compliance with project requirements, contracts, and design criteria
  • Participate in design and drawing reviews, construction support, technical RFI resolution, commissioning support, and project warranty support
  • Specify and procure Emerson DCS equipment
  • Develop and review control logic and graphics
  • Lead hardware and software factory acceptance testing
  • Oversee construction and programming of site controls and cybersecurity assets
  • Manage DCS purchase, design, and commissioning for each project
  • Provide technical leadership and management for a matrixed team of engineers and technical staff
  • Provide on-site engineering support during construction and commissioning
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Conduct engineering and related studies and complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight
  • Independently manage project schedules and interfaces
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities
  • Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards and project requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Engineer III: minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • Senior Engineer: minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • A master's degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
  • Working knowledge of Cyber Security and NERC CIP regulations
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, including ISA, IEEE, NFPA, and NERC
  • Strong working knowledge of Emerson Ovation control system and Allen-Bradley PLCs preferred
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering theories and principles
  • Knowledge of researching engineering and design issues, assessing options, and presenting recommendations
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam and desire to complete PE license preferred
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Willingness to travel 15–25%
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment as needed
