About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and document AC and DC power solutions for critical telecommunications infrastructure
  • Provide engineering support during installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
  • Answer technical questions, clarify design requirements, and resolve design-related issues with Field Services and implementation teams
  • Support telecom equipment at generation and transmission facilities, control buildings, shelters, towers, data centers, substations, and industrial or reliability-focused locations
  • Perform load, battery capacity and runtime, voltage-drop, conductor, equipment, breaker, and fuse-sizing calculations
  • Select and specify equipment and materials
  • Develop work packages, material lists, one-line diagrams, drawings, layouts, power and alarm requirements, installation guidance, commissioning requirements, and as-built records
  • Perform site assessments and participate in design reviews and equipment evaluations
  • Evaluate field conditions that differ from approved designs and recommend practical resolutions
  • Review designs and technical documentation for engineering accuracy and compliance with company standards, safety requirements, and operational needs
  • Coordinate with Field Services, construction, maintenance, operations, project management, vendors, contractors, and other technical teams
  • Identify and communicate safety, design, implementation, equipment, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle risks
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to improved engineering standards, documentation, training, and delivery practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree and minimum two (2) years relevant work experience for IT Telecom Analyst
  • High School/GED and five (5) years related work experience may substitute for an Associate degree and two years of experience for IT Telecom Analyst
  • Associate degree and minimum five (5) years relevant work experience for Senior IT Telecom Analyst
  • High School/GED and seven (7) years related work experience may substitute for an Associate degree and five years of experience for Senior IT Telecom Analyst
  • Relevant technical experience and ability to apply electrical fundamentals to power-system design, documentation, or engineering support
  • Experience with telecommunications power systems, including 240/120 VAC, 48 VDC, UPS and DC plants, batteries, rectifiers, chargers, inverters, distribution, monitoring, and backup generation
  • Experience with Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, Delta, or similar telecommunications power platforms
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, installation documents, equipment lists, and site information
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and calculations to electrical or power-system problems
  • Knowledge of electrical safety requirements and grounding and bonding principles
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written and oral communication, collaboration, planning, prioritization, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with engineering, field, operations, project, vendor, and contractor teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, or similar business and engineering productivity tools
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Ability to live within a reasonable commute of the designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way
