About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead accounting, analysis, and reporting of DEC and DEP revenue
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, close activities, management reporting, and internal and external reporting support
- Analyze revenue transactions from SAP billing and other source systems
- Write and maintain complex SQL queries and/or Python code for large transactional datasets
- Develop controlled, repeatable analytical solutions for revenue reporting
- Lead monthly and quarterly revenue variance analysis and identify key performance drivers
- Translate complex analytical findings into concise executive-ready reporting
- Understand revenue data flows from billing and operational systems through the general ledger and reporting
- Investigate revenue anomalies and reconciliation differences, determine root causes, and partner with cross-functional stakeholders on solutions
- Apply accounting judgment to complex revenue matters under GAAP, FERC requirements, regulatory guidance, and company policies
- Maintain internal controls, documentation, query validation, and audit evidence
- Provide technical leadership, review, and guidance to teammates
- Lead continuous-improvement and automation initiatives
- Manage multiple high-visibility priorities and communicate issues, dependencies, conclusions, and recommendations to management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, Management Information Systems, or another closely related discipline
- Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial reporting, revenue analysis, financial systems, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of accounting and finance principles
- Ability to research and resolve complex accounting or reporting matters
- Experience independently writing and validating complex SQL queries and/or Python code to analyze large transactional datasets
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility
- Reliable, consistent transportation required
- At least 3 days in the office after the onboarding period
- Ability to possess all basic/required qualifications
- CPA, CPA candidate, or graduate degree in Accounting, Business, Analytics, or a related field
- Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience
- Experience with complex financial variance analysis and identifying business drivers
- Ability to communicate complex accounting and analytical conclusions to management and nontechnical stakeholders
- Advanced proficiency with Excel
- Experience with financial reporting, visualization, or business-intelligence tools
- Revenue accounting or utility accounting experience
- Experience with SAP billing, SAP ERP, or other enterprise billing and financial systems
- Experience reconciling source-system transactions to general-ledger activity
- Experience building automated or repeatable reporting and analytical solutions using SQL, Python, Power BI, or comparable tools
- Knowledge of GAAP, FERC accounting requirements, rate-making principles, and utility revenue processes
- Experience with OneStream, Workiva/Wdesk, PeopleSoft, CAPS Online, or other financial reporting systems
- Experience presenting financial results, business drivers, and recommendations to senior leadership
- Experience supporting SOX controls, internal and external audits, SEC reporting, FERC reporting, or regulatory filings
- Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to efficiently multi-task within tight deadlines
- Experience with FERC form preparation and other regulatory filings
- Public accounting or auditing experience
