Lead Engineer – Grid Strategy and Advancement Engineering Application

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership for complex engineering work supporting the interconnection, commissioning, and performance of large computational load facilities
- Lead or support implementation, interpretation, and continued development of TIRLL and the Computational Load Commissioning Process
- Evaluate complex technical issues and develop practical requirements, recommendations, and solutions supporting system reliability and business objectives
- Apply knowledge of power system studies, protection and control, power quality, customer facility design, and related disciplines
- Engage internal subject matter experts and customers in defining and interpreting TIRLL and commissioning requirements
- Coordinate cross-functional engineering activities and communicate complex technical matters among internal subject matter experts, customers, developers, consultants, and industry stakeholders
- Provide technical guidance to other engineers and support development of team capabilities, processes, and consistent engineering practices
- Plan and manage engineering deliverables, prepare technical documentation, and support execution of major initiatives and projects
- Work from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period, reporting to the assigned Duke Energy facility as required, averaging 3 full workdays per regular workweek
- Travel 15–25%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program; a Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
- 8 years related work experience
- Registration as a Professional Engineer
- Strong foundation in power systems
- Advanced experience in one or more relevant areas such as power system modeling and studies, EMT analysis, protection and control, equipment performance, power quality, large-load integration, or customer facility engineering
- Knowledge of power-electronics-interfaced equipment, computational loads, or interaction between customer facilities and bulk power system performance
- Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements, NERC reliability standards, FERC regulatory frameworks, or industry standards
- Experience developing technical requirements, engineering processes, commissioning practices, or programs addressing emerging technical needs
- Ability to lead complex engineering work, guide other engineers, coordinate cross-functional initiatives, and manage technical deliverables
- Ability to develop sound engineering recommendations and clearly communicate complex matters to technical and nontechnical stakeholders
- Ability to address unfamiliar engineering challenges and adapt to evolving technical and business priorities
- Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Must live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way
