About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Generating Station Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Provide technical support for operations, maintenance, and projects across multiple generation technologies and geographic regions
- Provide technical support for control systems at coal, natural gas, solar, and bulk energy storage generation facilities
- Support plant operations and maintenance personnel with equipment troubleshooting
- Coordinate communication with external DCS Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) support groups
- Coordinate fleet-level guidance to internal station and regional DCS support personnel
- Own fleet-level standards, practices, and procedures
- Solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work
- Support generation facilities across Duke Energy’s operating regions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or 10+ years equivalent experience without a degree
- Skilled in engineering theories and principles
- Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Skilled in principles of project management
- Experience in the utility industry
- Experience with design, construction, commissioning, and/or process engineering support for generation facilities
- Experience with utility industry process control and automation equipment
- Experience with Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, or GE Mark VIe DCS equipment
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Routine travel within the home region (~15–25%) and occasional travel to other regions (5–10%)
