About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish, govern and provide oversight of the Real Estate Portfolio Management team, including Project Development, Estimating and Project Management functions
  • Partner with Real Estate and other department leaders to develop, prioritize and execute projects based on condition, reliability, capacity and operational needs
  • Oversee development of multi-year strategies, capital funding needs, emergent project requests and approximately 300–350 in-flight projects
  • Lead workplace optimization, portfolio condition and capacity assessments, and development of new facilities
  • Oversee creation of the Real Estate 5-year Capital Plan and align prioritization and capital optimization outcomes
  • Work with the Project Management Center of Excellence to ensure processes and procedures follow project risk-ranking criteria
  • Provide direction, governance and oversight of Portfolio Management resources, processes and programs
  • Manage staffing, procedural requirements, employee development and oversight of personnel developing projects for the enterprise multi-year plan
  • Establish and implement processes for screening, evaluating, scoping, scheduling, estimating and updating multi-year-plan projects
  • Develop project packages including estimates, business cases, analytics, forms, funding requests, timing and presentation materials
  • Ensure engagement of internal groups and smooth project turnover
  • Track and monitor project development progress, report status and proactively escalate risks
  • Drive continuous improvement through industry-leading project management best practices
  • Support portfolio strategy, evaluate key initiatives, manage competing priorities and requests for funding

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related degree and 5+ years related work experience OR High School/GED degree and 10+ years related work experience
  • Project Management training
  • 5 or more years of experience working in the Project Management or Project Development arena
  • Experience supervising, coordinating and reviewing the work of a diverse work group, both internal and external to the enterprise
  • Ability to provide strong leadership to team members, consultants, contractors, customers and other internal and external entities
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Business and finance knowledge
  • Strong communication capabilities, particularly with senior management and external to the organization
  • Capability to receive high-level objectives, critical issues, new concepts or policy matters and transform them into executable plans
  • Experience resolving difficult situations with customers and internal and external stakeholders and developing consensus among multiple parties
  • Must live within a reasonable commute of a designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must report to the assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed, on average 3 full workdays per regular workweek
