About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform complex transient thermal hydraulic simulations for all PWR Duke reactors using RETRAN-3D and VIPRE-01
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, and documentation
- Develop, qualify, and maintain computer codes used in safety analysis
- Collaborate with Duke, industry, vendor, and regulatory personnel
- Participate in technical training activities
- Originate, revise, and maintain NRC-approved methodologies for transient and accident analyses
- Create or review Licensing Amendment Request packages with Regulatory Compliance
- Develop and help license improved Safety Analysis methods
- Plan work to deliver high-quality results meeting station and NRC requirements and project schedules
- Perform reload analyses using NRC-approved methodologies
- Participate on reload teams for the 9 operating PWRs to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory limits
- Provide EOF technical support, nuclear plant support, reload core safety analysis, and reload licensing support
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Nuclear Engineer I: 0–2 years of engineering experience
- Nuclear Engineer II: 2–4 years of engineering experience
- Nuclear Engineer II: minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- Must meet the minimum ANSI requirements identified within Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
- Ability to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
- Emergency Response Organization responsibilities, including potential callouts and on-call duty rotation
- Must be Fit for Duty for ERO responsibilities
- Must reside in the greater Charlotte area
- Must live within a reasonable commute, not greater than 50 miles one way, to the designated Duke Energy facility
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Willingness/ability to travel 5–15%
- Nuclear Engineer I/II: subject to oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual in lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, until fully qualified
