About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work within the Operations Support Engineering Electrical team
  • Ensure equipment reliability and support component maintenance and planning activities
  • Own assigned electrical systems and/or components of varying complexity
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert for assigned responsibility areas
  • Coordinate with Design, Maintenance, Operations, and other departments on concerns, schedules, budgets, and related issues
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve increasingly complex problems
  • Contribute to team planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, monitoring, and decision-making
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Conduct engineering studies and complete routine engineering projects with increasing independence
  • Manage project schedules and interfaces; design, operate, and maintain systems
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Support company goals and represent Duke Energy positively and professionally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (not Technology) from an ABET-accredited program; a Master's degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. degree
  • Nuclear Engineer III: minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • Senior Nuclear Engineer: minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
  • Must meet minimum ANSI requirements under Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 personnel qualifications
  • Experience with station electrical systems and components such as switchyards, plant auxiliary distribution systems, relays, breakers, and switchgear
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute, not greater than 50 miles one way, to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Professional Engineer - SC listed as a desired qualification
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university listed as desired
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam listed as a preferred qualification
  • Utility industry and department-specific experience listed as preferred
  • 5–15% travel required
