About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide field construction accountability for Power Grid Operations construction, maintenance, and restoration activities
  • Manage moderately complex projects through all phases of the project lifecycle
  • Execute the PGO work plan while maintaining financial stewardship and efficiently utilizing contractor resources
  • Serve as the single point of contact for PGO contractors from project development through construction
  • Manage project costs, schedules, permitting, safe work practices, materials, public safety, site security, and commissioning
  • Manage pre-approvals and respond to Construction Approval Forms in Maximo
  • Perform construction audits, technical reviews, and H&S observations
  • Monitor contractor progress and communicate work-plan anomalies and emergent-work impacts
  • Resolve disputes between external parties and Duke Energy contractors
  • Provide technical guidance during site scoping and constructability reviews
  • Support outage sequence planning, resource strategies, bids, pricing events, change-order reviews, and clearance planning
  • Coordinate with Work Management, Outage Coordination, Engineering, Environmental, Project Management, Generation, and external customers
  • Support pre-construction meetings, FAC-OO8 walkdowns, project construction meetings, contractor onboarding, and switching/tagging work authorization
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning and ensure required documentation is completed
  • Perform substation and/or transmission line construction activities when applicable
  • Lead others and work in a self-directed manner to achieve safe, high-quality results
  • Ensure timely incident notification and documentation according to Event Reporting Criteria

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology, construction management, or a related degree and five (5) years of required experience in utility construction; OR bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a relevant field and three (3) years of required experience in utility construction; OR high school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of utility construction/maintenance experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Resource/Work Management principles
  • Working knowledge of workforce resourcing and contract administration
  • Strong conflict management and negotiation skills
  • General understanding of budgeting practices and charging guidelines
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and corporate information retrieval
  • Willingness to work in wet, swampy, isolated, hot, cold, emergency, night, weekend, and holiday conditions
  • Willingness to travel throughout Duke Energy’s geographic territories
  • Willingness to serve as after-hours point of contact on a rotating 24/7 basis for distribution contractors
  • Understanding of crane operations and associated rigging
  • Understanding of DOT work zone compliance
  • Thorough understanding of the “Keys to Life” safety document
  • Experience with Maximo, Plantview, Construction Audit Tool, iTOA, Duke Energy GIS, Planned Outage Portal(D), and Duke Energy ADMS
  • Experience performing H&S safety observations
  • Utility construction experience
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without current or future employment-based immigration sponsorship
