About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes
- Work on AC and DC power systems, large AC motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, protective relaying, voltage regulators, breakers, and related systems
- Provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve increasingly complex problems
- Contribute to team decision-making through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work activities
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Conduct engineering and related studies
- Complete routine engineering projects with minimal oversight
- Manage project schedules and interfaces with increasing independence
- Design, operate, and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems
- Coordinate work activities and develop positive working relationships
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Support company goals and represent Duke Energy positively and professionally
- Perform plant system walkdowns and provide field support for modification implementation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or a Master's degree in engineering in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
- Electrical Design Engineer III: minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
- Senior Electrical Design Engineer: minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
- Must meet minimum ANSI requirements identified within Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
- Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Preferred: State registration as a Professional Engineer
- Proficiency researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting recommendations
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in project management principles
- Experience in the utility industry, specifically the nuclear industry
- Experience with nuclear industry standard design process
- Working-level knowledge of ETAP software
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
- Availability for occasional overnight travel
- Availability for additional hours during scheduled refueling outages
- Potential ERO responsibilities, callouts, and on-call duty rotation requiring Fit for Duty
- Must live within a reasonable commute, not greater than 50 miles one way, to the designated Duke Energy facility
