About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop detailed project scopes, control equipment enclosure layouts, elementary, schematic, and wiring diagrams for substation projects
- Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs
- Use design specifications, code manuals, CAD software, and reference sources to complete engineering designs
- Produce engineering release packages, drawings, bills of material, relay setting files, and documentation
- Provide engineering and technical expertise for identifying, analyzing, and resolving increasingly complex problems
- Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities to achieve business goals
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Conduct engineering studies and complete non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight
- Independently manage project schedules and interfaces
- Design, operate, and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems
- Support field personnel during project implementation
- Develop and maintain CAD expertise for efficient engineering work
- Develop protective relay settings calculations and analysis according to IEEE, NERC, and evolving standards
- Develop and review high-voltage substation designs at 23kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV
- Collaborate with project teams to share knowledge and produce high-quality work
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineer III: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or Master's degree in engineering in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
- Engineer III: Minimum of 4 years engineering experience
- Senior Engineer: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer
- Senior Engineer: Master's degree in engineering considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
- Senior Engineer: Minimum of 6 years engineering experience, or 5 years with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- Registration as a Professional Engineer required at the Senior level by Transmission
- Electrical Engineering degree preferred
- Familiarity with electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based relaying
- Familiarity with relay protection schemes and relay logic
- Experience with protective relay settings calculations for transmission and distribution equipment
- Ability to interpret and develop relay logic for microprocessor-based relays
- Ability to interpret relay documents and Protection & Control design drawings
- Knowledge of applicable NERC and FRCC regulations
- Experience with power system modeling and relay coordination studies using Aspen One-Liner
- Familiarity with relays, carrier sets, RTUs, instrument transformers, and DC systems
- Understanding of electric utility protection and control standards
- Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, Inventor, and AutoCAD Electrical
- Ability to meet deadlines while completing multiple tasks
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including presenting information, facilitating meetings, and providing direction
- Understanding of basic project management principles
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Ability to work Monday through Friday, travel as required, and be available for call-out during system emergencies
