Senior NDE Technical Support Specialist – Level III

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide oversight and mentoring to Nuc NDE Technical Support Specialists
- Review NDE processes, certifications, training, testing, and vendor certification reviews
- Improve efficiency through internal self-assessments and external benchmarking
- Organize workload to support time-critical evolutions across the fleet
- Resolve problems and provide oversight to NDE support specialists and technicians performing inspection activities
- Enter problems/issues into the corrective action process and handle assigned corrective and causal actions
- Interface with NOS, NRC, QC/NDE Inspectors, ANII, NDE specialists, engineers, auditors, and Code Committees
- Attend meetings representing NDE and review committed work and non-committed schedules
- Maintain NDE procedures and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements
- Perform Level III reviews of completed nuclear inspection records
- Establish and approve NDE techniques and procedures; interpret codes, standards, and specifications
- Oversee NDE certifications, training, testing, exam writing, and QA record dispositioning
- Develop and maintain NDE Implementation Level documents under the Nuclear Policy Manual, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and Code of Federal Regulations
- Oversee NDE operations, training, and certification of Duke Nuclear QA/QC/NDE technicians
- Provide Level III technical support to NDE technicians
- Establish techniques using knowledge of materials, fabrication, and product technology
- Conduct field and vendor off-site observations
- Provide oversight and owner approval of assigned NDE vendors and Vendor Level IIIs
- Spend a minimum of 60% of time overseeing field inspections and NDE support personnel
- Travel routinely to Duke nuclear sites and occasionally to industry meetings, seminars, and manufacturer oversight visits
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's Degree / two-year technical degree in a related inspection field
- 6 years minimum required related work experience
- In lieu of degree, high school/GED and 8 years minimum required related work experience
- Nuclear Unescorted Access
- Minimum of five years' Level III experience, including training, testing, and certifying, in two or more NDE methods for at least two complete testing cycles in accordance with ASNT CP-189
- Preferred: 5 years nuclear experienced VT - 1, 2, 3 Level III meeting ASME Section XI, Appendix VI
- Working knowledge and understanding of the QA program and related documents
- Knowledge of ASTM, ANSI, ASNT, and ASME codes
- Experience reading and interpreting procedures, drawings, specifications, and codes
- Experience developing, qualifying, and approving NDE procedures and techniques
- Experience training, examining, and certifying NDE personnel
- Experience interpreting examination results
- Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision
- Planning and organizational skills
- Visa sponsorship is not provided; must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship
- Routine on-system travel and occasional off-system travel
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree, 10 years minimum related work experience, IDDEAL CERTWORKS, and advanced Microsoft Office Suite techniques
