About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical, financial, accounting, budgeting, and analytical support to the Nuclear Fuel Supply & Storage Group
- Perform economic assessments of alternative core configurations and operational regimes
- Assist in purchase decision-making and develop economically attractive nuclear fuel procurement strategies
- Serve as business liaison among nuclear fuel suppliers, the Nuclear Fuel Supply & Storage Group, and senior nuclear leadership
- Serve as technical and commercial point of contact for Duke and nuclear fuel vendor communications
- Oversee vendors’ schedules and quality of nuclear fuel-related deliverables
- Negotiate terms for products and services with nuclear fuel fabricators
- Develop processes supporting cost-efficient fuel delivery planning and communication across uranium, conversion, enrichment, fabrication, and Nuclear Design functions
- Compare core reload design options and plant operational regimes economically
- Perform and ensure quality of economic analyses for fuel supply proposals
- Participate in strategic long-term nuclear fuel supply planning
- Interface with corporate risk and legal staff to facilitate approval of fuel fabrication purchase recommendations
- Support industry efforts sustaining reliable, economic fuel supplies
- Enhance nuclear fuel cost and contractual obligations reporting
- Ensure purchase packages comply with procurement policies and procedures
- Support budgeting, accounting, and financial tracking for nuclear fuel transactions and expenditures
- Provide financial and project-related guidance to other Nuclear Fuels Engineering sections
- Manage documentation processes supporting Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and accurate financial reporting
- Work hybrid from remote and onsite locations; report to the assigned Duke Energy facility as directed, averaging 3 full onsite workdays per regular work week
- Travel 5–15% to Duke sites, industry sites, and conferences/meetings
- Perform occasional off-hour emergent work
Requirements
What you’ll need- Meet minimum ANSI requirements identified within Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or Professional Engineer (PE) as stated in Specific Requirements
- A Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Nuclear Engineer III: 4–6 years of engineering experience and minimum 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
- Senior Nuclear Engineer: minimum 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- Senior Nuclear Engineer: minimum 1 year of nuclear experience
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Must possess all basic/required qualifications
- Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration
- Preferred: Professional Engineer
- Experience supporting a nuclear station
- Broad knowledge of engineering practices, procedures, theories, and principles
- Knowledge of nuclear fuel fabricators’ capabilities and processes
- Experience participating in nuclear industry working groups
- Experience interfacing with senior management and nuclear station contacts
- Experience negotiating with internal customers and external suppliers
- Knowledge of Nuclear Fuels Engineering core reload design processes
- Ability to perform financial analyses and evaluations
- Experience overseeing or procuring nuclear fuel and fuel-related components
- Knowledge of contracts and contract requisitions
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills
- Ability to work independently with general direction
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships across the nuclear organization
- Ability to work in a team environment
