About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage assigned mechanical components to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with programs and commitments
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert for assigned components
  • Monitor and trend equipment performance
  • Interface with vendors to manage repairs and refurbishments
  • Direct onsite testing and troubleshooting for emergent issues
  • Coordinate with Design, Maintenance, Operations, and other departments on concerns, schedules, budgets, and related issues
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with NRC and industry standards
  • Evaluate fleet operating experience and industry learnings to improve component performance
  • Evaluate Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance program performance and recommend adjustments
  • Report to the Maintenance Support Engineering Manager
  • Perform plant observation work and occasional travel
  • Provide occasional weekend/overtime support

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Nuclear Engineer III: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (not Technology) from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university; Master's degree in engineering accepted in lieu of the bachelor's degree
  • Nuclear Engineer III: Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • Senior Nuclear Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (not Technology) from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university; Master's degree in engineering accepted in lieu of the bachelor's degree
  • Senior Nuclear Engineer: Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
  • ANSI requirements under Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 personnel qualifications
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Ability to meet possible Emergency Response Organization responsibilities, including site callouts, on-call duty rotation, and Fit for Duty requirements
  • Desired: 10+ years of direct component experience
  • Desired: Extensive machine vibration analysis and signature interpretation experience
  • Desired: Professional Engineer registration
  • Proficiency researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting recommendations
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Utility industry experience
  • Commercial nuclear plant experience
  • Ability to work within a reasonable commute of no more than 50 miles one way from the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Ability to work occasional weekends/overtime and travel 5–15%
