About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop regulatory documents and serve as a subject matter expert on licensing issues
  • Oversee and review vendor documents and ensure satisfactory resolution of regulatory issues
  • Engage verbally and in writing with the NRC as part of the licensing team
  • Prepare correspondence for submission to the NRC, DOE, and state environmental and health organizations
  • Interface with the NRC, DOE, and state or local agencies in regulatory engagement meetings, audits, public meetings, and NRC Project Manager and Branch Chief interactions
  • Develop new procedures and revise existing procedures and processes in accordance with company policies
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO)
  • Represent Duke Energy on working groups, task forces, and industry organizations
  • Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities
  • Conduct analysis, recommend process enhancements and standards, and maintain accurate records and files
  • Provide engineering and regulatory expertise and guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems
  • Keep abreast of new requirements, technologies, and processes
  • Coach and mentor engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum ANSI requirements identified within Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
  • 1 year of nuclear power plant experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • A Master's degree in engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. engineering degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Willingness/ability to report to the assigned Duke Energy facility as required, averaging 3 full workdays per regular work week
  • Ability to live within a reasonable commute, not greater than 50 miles one way, to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Travel requirement of 5–15%
  • Desired: Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Desired: 8 years of related work experience
  • Desired: Technical Nuclear Certification and/or Senior Reactor Operator and/or Reactor Operator and/or Professional Engineer
  • Desired: MBA or Master's degree
