About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and oversee preparation and review of individual, partnership, corporate, and nonprofit tax returns
- Coordinate the tax team’s day-to-day workflow, assignments, priorities, deadlines, and workloads
- Serve as a technical resource for Tax Associates and resolve tax and accounting questions
- Mentor, train, and support Tax Associates’ professional development
- Assist with onboarding and training new Tax Associates
- Monitor tax deadlines and outstanding client information; identify delays and develop solutions
- Assist management with staffing, workload, and resource planning during peak tax seasons
- Prepare and review Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 990
- Conduct secondary and final reviews of tax returns
- Research and resolve complex tax issues and maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws
- Support compliance-related reporting requirements
- Communicate with clients regarding tax questions, missing information, and technical matters
- Collaborate with clients, internal stakeholders, departments, and leadership
- Improve tax preparation processes, workflows, and procedures
- Develop and maintain internal tax procedures, checklists, training materials, and resources
- Troubleshoot Lacerte issues and provide technical support
- Support QuickBooks, payroll, and accounting-related questions
- Process general ledger transactions and journal entries
- Transact and reconcile commission revenues
- Process accounts payable payments and accounts receivable receipts
- Monitor cash balances across multiple entities
- Participate in month-end closing and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Assist with internal financial statement preparation and review
- Support firm initiatives and special projects
- Travel up to 10% as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
- Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required
- Minimum of 5 years of tax preparation experience, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, and 990
- Experience reviewing tax returns, providing technical guidance, or leading tax workflows preferred
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Experience with Lacerte, TaxDome, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar tax and accounting software
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance, accounting principles, and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, ethical judgment, and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to travel up to 10% as needed
- Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, which may include a criminal background check and credit history review, as permitted by law
- Preference given to candidates in Eastern or Central U.S. time zones
