About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Install, service, and repair residential garage doors and openers with limited supervision
  • Perform routine installations and repairs involving doors, sections, tracks, hardware, springs, cables, drums, rollers, weather seals, and opener systems
  • Focus primarily on new construction installations and service
  • Perform standard replacements and one-person door/opener replacements within allotted time
  • Measure openings, track alignment, door balance, and spring tension; make necessary adjustments
  • Diagnose routine service issues, including misalignment, sensor faults, damaged hardware, force adjustments, and opener programming errors
  • Program remotes, keypads, and smart-enabled opener technology
  • Maintain organized and well-stocked trucks and secure tools, equipment, and materials
  • Follow PPE and OSHA 10 safety practices and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues
  • Keep job sites safe, clean, and free of debris before and after work
  • Use internal systems to clock in/out, document work performed, record parts used, and provide service notes
  • Communicate professionally with customers, answer basic questions, and explain completed work
  • Travel regularly between customer locations and job sites
  • Operate a company vehicle and transport tools, parts, and equipment
  • Travel independently to assigned locations in a timely manner

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required
  • Skill proficiency in using hand and power tools, including drills, wrenches, sockets, ladders, impact tools, and torque tools
  • Knowledge of residential garage door systems, including parts, rollers, tracks, springs, hinges, cables, drums, bearing plates, opener systems, sensors, and weather seals
  • Ability to understand and follow jobsite safety practices, including PPE, ladder safety, lockout/tagout basics, pinch-point awareness, and safe torsion spring handling
  • Clear and respectful communication with lead technicians, homeowners, and office staff
  • Ability to accurately document job notes within internal systems
  • Ability to accurately measure openings, level tracks, set spring tension, balance doors, and ensure proper operation with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver 50–75 lbs. regularly
  • Ability to use ladders up to 12–14 feet
  • One to two years of experience in residential garage door installation or a related mechanical trade preferred
  • Vocational or technical training in mechanics, construction, electrical, welding, or related fields is a plus but is not required
