About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform routine installations, servicing, and repairs of residential garage doors and opener systems
- Install and service garage door sections, tracks, hardware, springs, cables, drums, rollers, weather seals, and openers
- Focus primarily on new construction installations and service
- Perform standard replacements and one-person door/opener replacements within allotted time
- Measure openings, track alignment, door balance, and spring tension; make necessary adjustments
- Diagnose routine issues such as misalignment, sensor faults, damaged hardware, force adjustments, and opener programming errors
- Program remotes, keypads, and smart-enabled opener technology
- Maintain organized, well-stocked trucks and secure tools, equipment, and materials
- Follow PPE and OSHA 10 safety practices and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues
- Keep job sites safe, clean, and free of debris
- Use internal systems to clock in/out, document work, record parts used, and provide service notes
- Communicate professionally with customers, answer basic questions, and explain work performed
- Travel regularly between residential customer locations and job sites during the workday
- Operate a company vehicle and transport tools, parts, and equipment as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent is required
- One to two years of experience in residential garage door installation or a related mechanical trade preferred
- Vocational or technical training in mechanics, construction, electrical, welding or related fields is a plus but is not required
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required
- Skill proficiency in using hand and power tools, including drills, wrenches, sockets, ladders, impact tools, and torque tools
- Knowledge of residential garage door systems, including parts, rollers, tracks, springs, hinges, cables, drums, bearing plates, opener systems, sensors, and weather seals
- Ability to understand and follow jobsite safety practices, including PPE, ladder safety, lockout/tagout basics, pinch-point awareness, and safe torsion spring handling
- Ability to accurately measure openings, level tracks, set spring tension, balance doors, and ensure proper operation with minimal supervision
- Ability to document job notes accurately within internal systems
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver 50–75 lbs. regularly
- Ability to use ladders up to 12–14 feet
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle and travel independently between assigned locations
