About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the Response Pod Team in delivering an efficient and effective 24/7 service with no avoidable service delivery failures
  • Respond to operational issues ranging from individual customer contacts to major large-diameter water-main failures
  • Investigate, pinpoint faults and take action to resolve issues
  • Provide direct customer service during urgent issues and explain next steps
  • Maintain vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring readiness and compliance with water quality and safety standards
  • Use emergency response equipment to restore water supplies while protecting water quality and the environment
  • Support planned distribution-network work, including leakage detection and maintenance
  • Monitor contractors through inspections and safety conversations
  • Review contractor RAMS and issue Permits to Work and Certificates of Isolation
  • Conduct dynamic on-site risk assessments and ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and DCWW policies
  • Perform daily vehicle checks, record defects and ensure Road Traffic Act and Operators Licence compliance
  • Record activities in SAP, PowerApps and Procedural Forms
  • Take water-quality samples from tankers and temporary supplies and coordinate laboratory transport
  • Support accurate monitoring of HGV drivers’ hours
  • Chlorinate tankers, bowsers and hoses when required and record completion
  • Communicate tanker and equipment availability to support supply-interruption mitigation
  • Escalate water-quality risks and resource or driver-changeover requirements
  • Participate in a standby rota and undertake other duties required by business needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrable experience working with colleagues and external suppliers to deliver high standards of safety compliance and performance
  • Experience working to stringent Health and Safety procedures and regulatory targets/constraints
  • Proven track record delivering high standards and levels of compliance
  • Practical experience carrying out operational activities, working to deadlines and delivering positive relationships
  • Good understanding of water service delivery processes and measures of success
  • Transferable practical skills beneficial to reactive operations, fault finding and operating the water network
  • Ability to problem solve quickly and effectively without compromising safety
  • Discipline to follow procedures with strong attention to detail
  • Experience delivering innovative solutions to solve problems
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support others
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships across the organisation
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating situations, challenges and risks effectively while working remotely
  • Ability to deal professionally with customers, colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Drive for results, initiative and willingness to learn
  • Competent in the use of IT
  • Willingness and ability to participate in a standby rota
  • Willingness to undertake shift work
  • Satisfactory references, post-offer medical clearance and Basic Disclosure criminal records check required
