About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead utility-scale BESS projects from concept through commissioning
- Perform load flow, short circuit, arc flash, grounding, and cable sizing for BESS projects
- Perform BESS physical design activities including drawings, specifications, and bill of materials
- Ensure BESS design follows applicable codes, standards, and interconnection requirements
- Develop battery augmentation plans
- Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure quality of work
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with the design team and project manager
- Utilize client and/or company information systems to track and update design activities
- Participate in or lead job site meetings to gather scope of work
- Participate in or lead responses to Requests for Information (RFI) during project construction
- Prepare complex computer-assisted design and construction drawings with neatness and minimal errors
- Report directly to the Design Engineering Manager
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
- 10+ years of experience working on BESS and/or renewable design projects with utility or consulting engineering firm
- Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Professional Engineer Certification preferred but not required
- Experience with substation design and construction standards for Southern California Edison
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Ability to sit/stand for up to 8 hours per day
- Ability to move freely for up to 8 hours per day
