About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead substation protection and control and/or physical design
  • Prepare field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of junior engineers’ submissions
  • Prepare complex computer-assisted design and construction drawings
  • Perform AC and DC load calculations for auxiliary systems
  • Perform conduit and bus sizing, lighting and lightning analysis, and grounding grid analysis
  • Ensure designs conform to client and industry standards
  • Coordinate project activities with the project manager, client, and other stakeholders
  • Track and update design activities using client and/or company information systems
  • Attend job site meetings to gather scope of work
  • Provide field support during construction as needed
  • Report directly to the Substation Design Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET approved college or university
  • 10+ years of experience working in substation design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional Engineer’s License in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
  • Experience with substation design and construction standards for electric utilities in California is highly desirable
