About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or designated healthcare professional
- Support the nurse in applying the nursing process
- Develop critical-thinking skills through collaboration with the RN
- Seek educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking
- Provide basic patient care, including comfort, vital signs, personal hygiene, mobility, and unit-based specialty duties
- Act as liaison between patients and nurses by reporting changes or concerns
- Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and employees
- Complete accurate, precise, and timely patient-care documentation
- Participate in hand-off/report of pertinent patient and departmental information
- Perform delegated tasks after competency validation
- Provide care appropriate to patients across neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
Requirements
What you’ll need- HS/GED (required)
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has successfully completed program-specific educational requirements to the level of immersion experience (required)
- Recent experience as a Patient Care Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other medical experience (preferred)
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)
- Ability to clearly communicate to other members of the healthcare team
- Ability to understand and follow directions of the healthcare team
- Knowledge of patient and healthcare safety standards and regulations
- Knowledge of infection prevention and transmission-based precautions
- Understanding of clerical duties and office-based technology
- Patient data collection and documentation, including vital signs, intake/output, and changes in patient condition
- Knowledge of basic hygiene and activities of daily living care
- Knowledge of feeding, hydration, nutrition, bowel and bladder elimination, ambulation, and patient mobility
- Use of clinical technology
- Critical thinking and advanced problem solving
- Understanding of the nursing process
- Must perform shift work
- Must be able to maneuver patient weight and use physical restraints as required
- Must exercise universal precautions and use personal protective equipment
- Must be able to travel by car to off-site locations occasionally
- Must be able to meet the listed physical and environmental requirements
