About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the end-to-end pipeline converting raw particle tracks into accurate 3D density maps
  • Advance reconstruction methodologies from POCA and ASR to likelihood-optimization frameworks
  • Explore and deploy adaptive or multi-resolution reconstruction grids balancing resolution, memory constraints, and processing speed
  • Compute per-track error weights using the muon beam's narrow energy bandwidth
  • Integrate optical scans, computer vision data, and digital object geometry as hard constraints in reconstructions
  • Develop solutions for track pile-up and hit ambiguity under high-flux detector conditions
  • Package and maintain standalone production software with reliable fixed input/output formats
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external research institutions
  • Field-test and refine imaging solutions for industrial quality assessment, security, customs inspection, and medical diagnostics

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A Doctorate (PhD / Dr.) degree in physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a closely related technical field is strictly required
  • Minimum post-doctoral experience required, with a strong preference for a few years of dedicated post-doctoral research background
  • Deep expertise in tomographic reconstruction, including implementation of POCA, ASR, or equivalent scattering-tomography algorithms
  • Capability to pivot to likelihood optimization when point-based limits are reached
  • Experience with numerical performance optimization, including adaptive or multi-resolution grids
  • Skill in tracking-detector physics, including resolving particle hit ambiguities and high-flux pile-up
  • Hands-on experience with multi-modal data fusion and individual-track uncertainty modeling
  • Production software engineering capabilities, transitioning research code into maintained, robust software packages
  • At least full professional proficiency in English (C1 level)
  • Availability to start by January 2027 or, at the latest, February 2027
  • Willingness to travel internationally occasionally
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid setup based out of the primary research hub

Benefits

Comp & perks
  • A substantial employee equity package offering a meaningful stake in the company's financial and market success
  • Complete autonomy within a fast-moving, high-impact team
  • Direct engagement with multi-GeV beamlines and elite research networks spanning aerospace, energy, and deep tech
  • Comprehensive international relocation assistance
  • Full visa sponsorship support for relocation to Hamburg
