Senior Director, Finance
EDI Caucus. Serve as Future Caucus’ senior internal finance leader, providing strategic financial guidance to the CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team .
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as Future Caucus’ senior internal finance leader, providing strategic financial guidance to the CEO, COO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team
- Develop and maintain financial plans and projects, including cash flow, reserves, and investment strategy analyses
- Contribute to long-term strategic and operational plans with a focus on financial sustainability
- Communicate financial performance, forecasts, risks, opportunities, trends, and tradeoffs to senior leadership
- Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights and build financial fluency across the organization
- Prepare the CEO and COO to present quarterly financial reports and narratives for Board meetings
- Oversee annual operating budget preparation and management
- Lead forecasting, monitor financial performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions
- Build and embed financial processes, tools, and policies for department heads
- Lead budget reviews with department heads
- Provide financial oversight of organizational grants, including budget development, reporting, compliance, cost allocation, and reimbursements
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and narratives
- Analyze financial results and provide actionable recommendations
- Oversee year-end financial statements and compliance with accounting principles, including GAAP and fund accounting
- Establish and maintain internal controls and financial risk mechanisms
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data and accounting records
- Oversee the external accounting firm, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close
- Oversee annual tax returns, including IRS Form 990, and the annual audit process
- Oversee financial policies, procedures, and staff training
- Establish and execute accounts payable procedures and technologies
- Complete necessary registrations, licenses, and insurance needs
- Perform other related duties as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 7+ years of relevant experience, with non-profit finance experience required
- Experience managing a budget of $4M or more
- Degree in finance, accounting, non-profit/business administration, or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated experience with nonprofit financial systems, grant & restricted revenue compliance, and board-level financial reporting
- Detail-orientation and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal judgement when communicating with a range of audiences
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and other financial tools, such as QuickBooks, forecasting tools, and AP software
- Strong initiative and proactive communication
- Experience in or knowledge of ethics requirements in legislatures is a bonus
- Sincere commitment to Future Caucus mission of working across partisan lines
- Candidates must be located in the Washington, D.C. metro area, or be willing to relocate
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment
