About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner across the engineering team to ensure K-LOVE programming is broadcast successfully and to the highest quality
- Install, maintain, operate, update, and perform intricate repairs on broadcast systems
- Lead operation, testing, and maintenance of audio processors, transmission systems, EAS equipment, receivers, monitors, electrical systems, and related equipment
- Optimize signal and sound according to Ministry guidelines
- Enhance system performance, reliability, and efficiency using IP-based, modern microwave, and LEO satellite solutions
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults down to the component level
- Partner and communicate with engineers, including contract engineers, on critical objectives
- Mentor and serve as an escalation point for junior Broadcast Engineers
- Complete timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgeting documents, and other administrative records
- Maintain asset management, work order, and ticketing systems to log activities, track inventory, and update status
- Respond to emails, texts, and phone calls regarding operational status and project updates
- Maintain organized digital and physical records
- Ensure FCC compliance and uphold safety standards, including lockout-tagout procedures
- Serve as Chief Operator/Engineer for assigned broadcast stations and fulfill regulatory responsibilities
- Visit each assigned transmitter site at least once per quarter
- Respond to unplanned outages, emergency repairs, and critical events requiring on-site presence
- Maintain and troubleshoot generators, HVAC, and minor electrical/plumbing systems
- Travel to remote sites for complex installations or critical repairs, and to the K-LOVE Campus for specialized training or project leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical studies in electronics, broadcast communications, or a related field; OR a minimum of five years of directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education
- SBE Certification highly desirable
- Minimum of 6+ years of demonstrated expert-level experience in troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and maintaining complex broadcast electronic equipment, or comparable relevant experience
- Thorough understanding of broadcast air-chain components, including complex system interactions and IP-based signal distribution
- Intermediate networking skills (TCP/IP, routing, switching) and ability to diagnose common network issues
- Advanced understanding of modern microwave and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technologies and their integration
- Deep understanding of radio frequency (RF) emissions, interference mitigation, and regulatory compliance
- Expertise in soldering and desoldering electronic components, including precision work
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable broadcast-related FCC rules and regulations
- Ability to perform complex calculations for common broadcast-related formulae
- Advanced proficiency with standard broadcast test equipment (VOMs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other common software
- Proven ability to systematically and logically address multiple, highly complex technical problems
- Ability to apply sophisticated common-sense understanding to carry out complex instructions and think strategically from abstract problems to practical solutions
- Exemplary communication skills characterized by grace, respect, and humility; strong ability to listen, provide constructive feedback, and influence positively
