About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own finance and accounting end to end as Efficient Computer's first dedicated finance hire
- Work with the VP of Operations, CEO, department heads, outside accountants, auditors, and counsel
- Establish a predictable month-end close cadence
- Develop visibility into cash position and committed spend
- Understand departmental spending and budgets
- Own the operating model, annual budget, rolling forecast, departmental budgeting, and variance analysis
- Run accounting, tax, and compliance, including the GL, revenue recognition, inventory and cost accounting, payroll, AP, AR, billing, collections, R&D tax credits, Section 174 treatment, sales tax, and multi-state obligations
- Forecast cash and manage treasury, banking, insurance, capital commitments, debt facilities, and financing diligence
- Own the finance systems roadmap, controls, approval flows, documentation, and audit readiness
- Prepare board and investor reporting
- Support equity administration, 409A refreshes, and cap table work
- Build a scalable finance function and plan for growth
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years in finance and accounting, including ownership of both a close and a forecast
- Experience in a capital-intensive business, such as semiconductor or another industry with large commitments made long before revenue
- Experience in a fast-moving startup, ideally as an early or first finance hire
- Comfort operating without a finance team behind you
- Track record of maturing a finance function without slowing the company down
- Clear communication with engineers, executives, and the board
- Comfort being hands on and doing the work directly
- Semiconductor or hardware experience is a plus rather than a requirement
- CPA is a bonus
- Experience running a company's first audit is a bonus
- Experience implementing finance systems is a bonus
- Experience preparing a company for IPO-track or acquisition reporting rigor is a bonus
