About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership, direction, and management of MSLs within the assigned region
- Develop individual talent within the MSL team through goal setting, activity oversight, coaching, performance assessment, development, and engagement
- Provide field-level scientific leadership in assigned therapeutic areas in collaboration with home-office medical colleagues
- Collaborate effectively and compliantly with cross-functional and alliance leadership
- Ensure team targets are clearly defined, information is cascaded effectively, and accountability is driven throughout the organization
- Work collaboratively with Medical Affairs Senior Management on strategic and tactical planning
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs and Clinical Development teams to support clinical studies across the product portfolio
- Work with direct reports, Medical Directors, and external customers to understand the scientific landscape and communicate information to internal stakeholders
- Provide individualized development plans and ongoing performance management for direct reports
- Assist Associate Directors with leadership competency criteria, MSL performance assessments, and promotion recommendations
- Build a culture of accountability and address individual MSL performance problems and issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- Advanced scientific terminal degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) with 8+ years of experience in the pharma/biotech industry
- Previous experience managing field-based medical teams
- Proven performance in an earlier role
- Experience managing field-based medical teams directly in a supervisory/leadership capacity preferred
- Practical understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPPA, PhRMA, and other international regulatory/ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
- Oncology experience preferred
- Travel required for conferences, congresses, team meetings, mentoring/training activities, and KOL/HCP interactions as needed
- Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in the Life Sciences industry preferred
- Ability to engage in person with HCPs and other third parties at their offices, institutions, and other appropriate locations on a regular basis
- May be required to complete third parties' credentialing and/or entry requirements, including vaccination attestations or proof
- Must meet United States employment eligibility requirements verified through E-Verify
