About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Execute social media strategy through editorial planning, campaigns, publishing, monitoring, engagement, and measurement
- Develop newsletters, announcements, web stories, outreach materials, presentations, graphics, infographics, short-form video, and other multimedia
- Translate complex EPIC/UFS science and technology into clear, accurate, audience-appropriate content
- Maintain consistent EPIC/UFS/NOAA branding and editorial quality
- Support education, outreach, events, software releases, technical milestones, and community opportunities with coordinated communications products
- Perform quality control of deliverables
- Manage stakeholder engagement workflows, community feedback processes, action tracking, approvals, and reporting
- Coordinate communication, education, and branding efforts for a program modernizing weather prediction capabilities
- Support federal clients including NASA, NOAA, and USGS on cloud-based geospatial and remotely sensed data projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of experience in a communications role (communications specialist or equivalent)
- Experience creating and publishing multimedia content for web and social media platforms
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
- Experience developing and executing digital communication campaigns that increase audience engagement and visibility
- Experience using analytics, user feedback, and market research to optimize digital content and communication strategies
- Ability to translate complex technical, policy, or scientific information into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences
- Ability to work as a member of a small team, collaborating with subject-matter experts and external stakeholders
- Proponent of continuous improvement; willingness to bring new ideas to the team
- Outstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and proficiently in a remote environment
- Energetic, self-motivated, team player
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens, or lawfully reside in the U.S. with U.S. work authorization
- Element 84 will not sponsor work authorization now or in the future
- Non-U.S. citizens must have resided continuously in the U.S. for the past two years
- Must be able to pass a Department of Commerce background investigation (NACI), including fingerprinting
- Candidates must reside within the Washington, DC metropolitan area
- Preferred: Active NOAA CAC badge
- Preferred: Proficiency with project management tools
- Preferred: Environmental and/or climate domain knowledge
- Preferred: Google Analytics
- Preferred: Figma, Webflow, Storyline, or similar tools
- Preferred: R, GIS fundamentals, Tableau, or Power BI
- Preferred: Environmental, climate, sustainability, public-sector communications, and public risk communication domain knowledge
- Must be able to commit to an in-person project presentation at one of Element 84's HQ locations
