About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support medical management staff in ensuring timely and consistent medical decisions for members and providers
- Complete clinical case reviews for the relevant board-certified specialty
- Make physician-to-physician calls to gather medically appropriate information
- Make medical necessity determinations for grievance and appeals within the relevant specialty
- Ensure consistent use of medical policies in medical necessity decisions
- Escalate case review decisions requiring Medical Director review or policy interpretation to supervisors
- Attend required in-person training sessions
Requirements
What you’ll need- MD or DO required
- Board certification approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), where applicable to duties performed
- Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or a health profession
- 3 years of clinical experience post residency
- Preferably experience in inpatient post-acute care
- Board certification in Physical Medicine and Rehab preferred
- Must be within a reasonable commuting distance from a posting location unless an accommodation is granted
- Must work 11:00 AM–8:00 PM CT and provide one weekend coverage shift per month
- Certain patient/member-facing roles require COVID-19 and Influenza vaccination unless an acceptable explanation is provided
