About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide support to a clinical team to facilitate administrative components of clinical referrals
- Act as a first-level subject matter expert on intake calls, production-oriented work, physician assisting, and special projects
- Act as liaison between hospitals, health plans, physicians, patients, vendors, and other referral sources
- Review complex referrals for completeness and follow up for additional information
- Assign referrals to staff as appropriate
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain authorizations from insurance plans when needed
- Contact physician offices to obtain demographic information or related data
- Enter referrals and document communications, actions, and other data in the system
- Handle calls, texts, facsimiles, and electronic queues while simultaneously taking notes and speaking with customers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- HS diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a high-volume, interactive customer service or call center in a healthcare environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to work 24 hours per week in two 12-hour shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM Eastern on Friday and Saturday
- Ability to work from the office as necessary
- Ability to multitask while handling calls, texts, facsimiles, and electronic queues
- Proficient in maintaining focus during extended periods of sitting and handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for virtual and in-person interactions
- Attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability
- Empathy and persistence to resolve caller issues completely
- Comfort and proficiency with digital tools and platforms
- Knowledge of medical terminology and plan-specific guidelines preferred
- ICD-9 and CPT coding preferred
- Ability to quickly learn and navigate new systems and technology strongly preferred
- Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from the posting location(s), unless accommodation is granted as required by law
