About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner with scientists and engineers to deliver robust, reproducible data pipelines across disciplines
Serve as an interface between core data systems and research and engineering projects across EIT
Disseminate data engineering best practices into the institutes
Ensure datasets are accurate, reproducible, version-controlled, well-structured, and ready for ML
Turn raw information from varied sources into high-quality data resources
Own ingestion, storage, curation, and transformation of diverse biological datasets and formats
Package and deploy code in research environments using containers such as Docker
Scale processing across distributed cloud warehouses and storage using Kubernetes, Slurm, Spark, or Ray
Contribute to maintainable engineering practices, testing, robust system design, rapid prototyping, and collaboration

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong programming experience in Python
Commitment to code quality, reliability, and readability
Deep understanding of data storage and manipulation, including relational systems, sharding, parallelisation, indexing, and scalability
Experience working on cloud compute platforms and varied Linux environments
Experience working at scale, especially on distributed/parallelised data systems
Knowledge of Data Engineering and Data Management practices, including reproducibility, version-control, schema design, lineage, and single-source of truth
Systems thinking and end-to-end ownership from low-level performance to user interfaces
Experience preparing data for ML, including pre-training, post-training, and evaluations
Scientific background with experience or qualifications in genomics, proteomics, or related fields valued
Experience in bioinformatics and use of industry-standard tooling such as NextFlow valued
Must have the right to work permanently in the UK
Willingness to travel as necessary
