About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build robust, scalable software systems that power EIT’s scientific initiatives
  • Design and build services including APIs, CLI tools, and software modules for scientific applications and products
  • Integrate ML inference servers, hardware interfaces, and data pipelines into cohesive systems
  • Ensure high availability and low latency
  • Own the full production path from architectural design and coding through automated testing, benchmarking, deployment, and observability
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, AI Scientists, Software Engineers, and Domain Experts
  • Champion software engineering best practices, code quality, system security, and transparency across EIT

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • MSc or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Extensive experience as a Software Engineer
  • Required proficiency in Python
  • Proven success implementing and deploying robust, scalable distributed systems in production
  • Experience designing, managing, and orchestrating complex systems involving scalable data infrastructure, hardware interfaces, and machine learning models
  • Expertise defining and exposing functionality via clean, well-documented APIs, such as REST and gRPC
  • Proven experience implementing and managing robust CI/CD pipelines and reproducible development workflows
  • Strong collaboration and communication of system design, architecture decisions, and software engineering practices to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience leveraging Kubernetes for application deployment is desirable
  • Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks such as Ray and Spark, or batch schedulers/resource managers such as Slurm, Volcano, and Kueue, is desirable
  • Expertise with serving engines such as vLLM and SGLang or model deployment in resource-constrained or high-throughput environments is desirable
  • Familiarity with GitOps and CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and GitHub Actions is desirable
  • Experience managing and deploying production systems across cloud, on-premises clusters, and edge devices is desirable
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic R&D settings with high autonomy is desirable
  • Right to work permanently in the UK; sponsorship may be considered case-by-case
  • Live in or within easy commuting distance of Oxford/London, or be willing to relocate
  • Ability to commit to the hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office: 2 days in Oxford and 1 day in London
