About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Architect and develop software solutions to increase the speed or reliability of laboratory operations
- Maintain advanced laboratory support systems, including inventory management and asset tracking
- Update SLL, Emerald’s software library, to improve the development experience for internal and external users
- Work at the intersection of experimental detail, industrial laboratory logistics, instrumentation integration, and software systems
- Direct, track, and support laboratory experiments through scientific infrastructure systems
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Biology
- 2 years of experience as a Scientific Infrastructure Engineer, Scientific Automation Engineer, Research Scientist - Automation & Systems, Research & Development Infrastructure Scientist, or Research Engineer
- Experience with Mathematica Coding
- Comfortable with rigorous data analysis and experimental design
- Capable and willing to learn computer programming; prior experience is welcome but not necessary
- Capable and willing to learn to program robotic automation; prior experience is welcome but not necessary
- Extensive experience troubleshooting experiments and complex instrumentation during research
- Experience conducting a wide variety of experiment types
- Excited to quickly develop expertise in diverse new methods and instrumentation
- Enjoy building systems and automating processes
- Detail-oriented thinker who takes pride in precision experimentation
- Passionate about science, technology, and medicine
- Empathetic and able to argue differing rationales convincingly
- Intellectually fearless across multiple disciplines
- Curious and willing to follow first-principles reasoning
