About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee and cultivate relationships with leaders and partners within and outside Public Affairs and Communications
  • Develop engagement strategies, approaches, and tools to improve efficiencies and minimize risk related to community and tribal engagement
  • Implement regulatory requirements for consultation and engagement
  • Document consultation and engagement outcomes effectively
  • Provide awareness and guidance on tribal and cultural protocols, norms, and politics
  • Support respectful engagement with Native American communities and build positive relationships
  • Assist stakeholder engagement in the field with individuals, tribal communities, local governments, and organizations
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety, Enbridge Projects, Strategic Projects & Partnerships, and Operations
  • Develop and implement project-specific and regional engagement plans
  • Develop strategies, media spokesperson talking points, and budgets
  • Meet regulatory requirements and strengthen Enbridge’s reputation as a trusted corporate citizen
  • Attend after-hours Indigenous and community events throughout the year

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree from a related post-secondary program
  • 7 or more years of directly related work experience in Indigenous and/or stakeholder engagement
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of and experience engaging with tribal communities
  • Knowledge of US Tribal history and rights, cultural protocols and norms, and tribal politics
  • Ability to successfully engage with tribal people
  • Familiarity with applicable government and regulatory requirements, present day issues, and community dynamics
  • Values of Safety, Integrity, Respect, Inclusion and High Performance
  • Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions
  • Specific experience in cross-cultural stakeholder/Indigenous and community engagement
  • Knowledge of community development practices and organizational effectiveness strategies
  • Ability to interact effectively and establish credibility with tribal leaders, community representatives, field and corporate staff, external stakeholder groups, partners, and contractors
  • Frequent travel
  • Ability to work in an office environment
  • Final candidates may be required to undergo security screening, including a criminal records check
