About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead interconnection activities with utilities, Independent System Operators, and Regional Transmission Organizations from initial studies through agreement negotiations
  • Develop conceptual designs and cost estimates for high-voltage interconnections, substations, collection systems, transmission lines, and related equipment
  • Conduct or review power flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protection coordination, and grounding studies
  • Provide technical leadership across internal teams, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers, and project partners
  • Support high-voltage equipment procurement through technical bid packages, vendor evaluation, and design optimization
  • Deliver technical recommendations balancing safety, reliability, cost, schedule, operability, and long-term asset performance
  • Track technical milestones, identify risks, escalate concerns, and improve project design and execution
  • Travel to project sites, supplier locations, and Enbridge offices, averaging approximately 10% and potentially increasing to 25% during peak periods

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States
  • 8 or more years of progressive technical experience
  • Functional or informal leadership experience
  • Direct experience with utility-scale electrical systems, renewable energy interconnections, and high-voltage substation or transmission design
  • Understanding of North American interconnection processes
  • Experience working with Independent System Operators, Regional Transmission Organizations, or utilities
  • Ability to assess complex technical information and develop recommendations considering commercial, schedule, safety, and lifecycle requirements
  • Ability to lead discussions and explain highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leaders
  • Valid driver’s licence and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and complex project requirements
  • Final candidates may be required to undergo security screening, including a criminal records check
