About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct disaster survivor intake, screening, and needs assessments using approved tools and procedures
- Develop individualized recovery plans, establish recovery goals, identify barriers, and update plans
- Identify, verify, and coordinate federal, state, tribal, territorial, local, nonprofit, and community resources
- Provide resource referrals and follow-up and assist survivors in navigating benefits and services
- Apply the FEMA sequence of delivery and help avoid duplication of benefits
- Maintain survivor contact and document progress, needs, referrals, outcomes, and follow-up activities
- Complete case transfer, transition, closure, file retention, and reporting activities
- Maintain accurate case information in approved case management systems
- Protect PII, survivor records, and Federal information and comply with privacy, cybersecurity, records-management, and Rules of Behavior requirements
- Use culturally responsive practices and support people with disabilities and access and functional needs
- Recognize and follow reporting or referral procedures for trafficking, abuse, violence, and financial exploitation concerns
- Coordinate with resource coordinators, benefits navigators, supervisors, government representatives, community organizations, service providers, and mission partners
- Participate in readiness activities, training, exercises, briefings, debriefings, hotwashes, and continuous-improvement activities
- Maintain deployment readiness and deploy to field, remote, or austere environments as assigned
- Provide exceptional customer service focused on children, families, Veterans, and clients
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field is preferred
- Equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered in accordance with organizational and contract position-qualification requirements
- Relevant experience in case management, human services, crisis intervention, benefits/resource navigation, disaster recovery, or community-based services is preferred
- Disaster case management experience is strongly preferred
- Must complete required screening, background investigation, credentialing, cybersecurity/privacy training, Rules of Behavior, and role-based disaster human services case management training before accessing applicable Government systems or survivor records and before deployment
- Must complete NIMS courses IS-100.C, IS-200.C, IS-700.B, and IS-800.D before deployment
- Professional spoken fluency in a language in addition to English is highly desirable; American Sign Language may be required based on impacted-community needs
- Must maintain reliable availability while deployment ready, including variable schedules, extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays when operationally required
- Must be able to deploy within required contract timeframes, including the 48-hour surge requirement when applicable
- Nationwide travel and deployment to disaster-impacted locations may be required
- Driver's License with a clear record
- Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must successfully complete and maintain employment screening, criminal history checks, child-protection registry checks, federal background investigation, HSPD-12/PIV credentialing, and security and access requirements
