About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build and ship features in the Numan app, owning them from technical scoping through release and post-launch monitoring
Write production-quality native code in Swift and SwiftUI or Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with strong test coverage
Shape and evolve app architecture, including modularisation, state management, networking and offline behaviour
Work with product and design to turn patient problems into simple, accessible experiences
Partner with backend engineers on efficient and secure API design
Own app quality, including crash rates, performance, startup time and WCAG accessibility
Use monitoring and analytics to identify and fix problems
Improve the mobile delivery pipeline, including CI/CD, automated testing, feature flags, phased rollouts and App Store/Google Play release management
Protect patient data through secure storage, authentication and privacy-conscious development
Conduct constructive code reviews and write documentation, RFCs and PR descriptions
Mentor engineers, share knowledge and help establish mobile standards and working practices
Interview candidates and help grow the team
Use AI coding assistants thoughtfully while maintaining quality
Collaborate in a cross-functional squad with product, design and backend engineers
Own features from idea through App Store and Google Play release
Deliver large features across a product area and collaborate with and mentor other engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years building mobile apps professionally
At least one consumer app helped ship and scale on the App Store or Google Play
Deep expertise in native development on at least one platform: Swift and SwiftUI (iOS) or Kotlin and Jetpack Compose (Android)
Working knowledge of the other mobile platform is a plus
Strong understanding of mobile architecture, including MVVM, unidirectional data flow, dependency injection and modularisation
Experience with unit, UI and snapshot testing and building testable code
Experience with mobile CI/CD, such as Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions or Xcode Cloud
Experience managing mobile releases end to end
Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs, including authentication, caching and error states
Track record of owning large features or product areas and improving team engineering practices
Experience mentoring engineers and giving useful code reviews
Clear communication with engineers and non-engineers
Comfort working closely with product and design
Care for patients and understanding of privacy and accessibility in health products
Experience working in an agile team, delivering in sprints
Understanding of UK GDPR and healthcare requirements
