About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Represent engineering during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support early-stage site testing and inspection.
- Validate wiring, install devices, and configure networks for PLCs, VSDs, energy meters, modems, and data loggers.
- Support Project Engineers during commissioning through initial testing and troubleshooting.
- Standardize and update PLC and HMI code libraries and documentation templates.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, uptime, energy performance, and costs.
- Assess customer engineering requirements and ensure incorporation into projects.
- Liaise with client engineering staff and promote a collaborative partnering philosophy.
- Follow safety policies and procedures.
- Achieve departmental goals and KPIs, including C5 sign-off within 60 days from C4 sign-off.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI programs, including Siemens and Allen-Bradley systems.
- Commission Variable Speed Drives for performance, motor protection, and reliability.
- Set up, test, and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Modbus, Profibus, RS485, Ethernet/IP, and Bacnet.
- Support remote cloud-based SCADA/HMI setup, preferably Ignition; review process diagrams and validate control logic.
- Validate data streams, escalate configuration issues, translate IoT requirements into Single Line Diagrams, map data fields, and diagnose live systems using tools such as ModScan.
- Respond to on-site maintenance events, perform diagnostics and minor repairs, and support preventive maintenance.
- Support contractor communication, coordination, and quality checks.
- Maintain installation, commissioning, and field-adjustment records, including photographs and updated diagrams.
- Provide feedback to improve engineering best-practice documentation, processes, QCPs, SOPs, and templates.
- Support development and issuance of Requests for Quote for prospective projects.
- Travel to support projects in other global regions when required.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Holds an Engineering degree (preferred) or a Diploma
- Proficient in PLC, HMI, and VFD programming, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of industrial instrumentation, control, and communication systems
- Working knowledge of energy metering and power quality analysis
- Familiar with industrial networks (e.g. Fieldbus, Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, Ethernet)
- High proficiency in English (written and verbal), with additional European languages advantageous (Polish/ Spanish / German)
- Ideal 10+ years of hands-on automation and control systems experience (5+ minimum)
- Proven success delivering complex system integration projects
- Experience in commissioning and troubleshooting LV and MV VFDs (preferable)
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks remotely and delegate effectively
- Skilled in planning, organising, and prioritising workloads to meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Analytical mindset with effective problem-solving ability
