About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the State and Local tax function and provide technical expertise on state and local tax issues
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive tax controls and procedures
  • Lead accurate and timely preparation and filing of multi-state sales/use, franchise, gross receipts, and property tax returns
  • Oversee state and local tax liability calculations and GAAP reporting
  • Monitor changes in state and local tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Perform tax planning, compliance, and consulting
  • Identify, review, and advise on state and local income tax implications of corporate operations, business initiatives, and transactions
  • Research state and local indirect tax issues, including product/service taxability, entity registration, and invoicing
  • Prepare written tax guidance and educate Finance, Accounting, and Operations teams
  • Oversee state and local tax audit scheduling
  • Assist with year-end income tax and audit preparation and coordinate with external tax teams
  • Compile state apportionment schedules
  • Facilitate tax department projects and align state and local tax strategies with broader tax objectives
  • Identify process improvement and tax automation opportunities and systems
  • Lead preparation and filing of annual 1099s
  • Facilitate business license renewals and applications and advise on initiatives triggering business licenses
  • Lead preparation and filing of unclaimed property reports and monitor escheat laws
  • Perform other tax reporting duties assigned by the Senior Director of Financial Reporting and/or Executive Vice President of Finance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area
  • CPA Required
  • 10 plus years of relevant experience
  • Strong state and local tax knowledge and experience
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Relationship, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Focus on delivering results and ability to drive change to improve performance, services, and outcomes
  • Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors
  • Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary
  • Experience working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms and/or construction industry experience (preferred)
  • CMA, CFMA or MBA (preferred)
  • Ability to travel 0–5% of the time to job sites/office locations
  • Ability to work prolonged periods at a desk and computer
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to remain stationary, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Ability to repeat motions involving wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Ability to work in a quiet environment
  • Ability to adjust or move objects up to 20 pounds
