About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform technical activities on assigned projects under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer
  • Design and prepare drawings for electrical systems in building projects, including code reviews, lighting calculations, lighting and receptacle layouts, one-line diagrams, branch circuit, feeder and service calculations, and fault current calculations
  • Write and edit electrical system specifications for building projects
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, and architects as needed
  • Prepare and distribute meeting notes
  • Conduct site surveys to determine existing and proposed facility conditions
  • Visit construction job sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance with design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes
  • Prepare punch lists and project observation reports
  • Prepare Proposal Requests and Supplemental Instructions, and respond to Requests for Information
  • Review project submittal documents and approve or reject them based on compliance with project drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, and other disciplines
  • Mentor and assist in directing BIM/CAD Technicians and Electrical Designers
  • Perform energy calculations
  • Manage small electrical design projects
  • Assist the project manager with budgets, cost estimates, project schedules, contracts, and billing
  • Assist in establishing electrical design standards
  • Participate in industry organizations and attend related events, meetings, and activities
  • Uphold the company's owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2-year Technical Degree or Associate Degree in an Electrical-Related Field, or an Electrical Program / Course / Classes at a Community College, plus 5–10 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm
  • 5–10 years of experience with a Master or Journeyman Electrician License, or 7–10 years of experience as an electrician working for an Electrical Contractor
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
  • Experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and central energy plant projects
  • Knowledge and use of SKM software for fault current calculations, Arc-flash studies and labeling
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to move in different positions to accomplish tasks in tight and confined spaces
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to operate machinery and/or power tools
  • Ability to work outdoors in precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment
  • Ability to perform light to heavy work, including adjusting and/or moving objects from 20–100 pounds
  • Ability to travel to job sites/office locations 50% of the time
