About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and prepare drawings for electrical systems for building projects, including code review, lighting calculations, lighting and receptacle layouts, one-line diagrams, branch circuit, feeder, service, and fault current calculations
  • Write and edit electrical system specifications under the supervision of a licensed professional electrical engineer
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, and architects
  • Prepare and distribute meeting notes
  • Conduct site surveys to determine existing and proposed facility conditions
  • Conduct construction job site visits to monitor progress and ensure conformance with design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes
  • Prepare punch lists and project observation reports
  • Prepare Proposal Requests and Supplemental Instructions and respond to Requests for Information
  • Review project submittal documents and approve or reject them based on compliance with drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, and other disciplines
  • Mentor and assist in directing BIM/CAD Technicians and Electrical Designers
  • Perform energy calculations
  • Manage small electrical design projects
  • Assist with budgets, cost estimates, schedules, contracts, and project billing
  • Assist in establishing electrical design standards
  • Participate in industry organizations and events
  • Uphold the company's owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2-year Technical Degree or Associate Degree in an Electrical-Related Field, or an Electrical Program / Course / Classes at a Community College, plus 5–10 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm
  • OR 5–10 years of experience with a Master or Journeyman Electrician License
  • OR 7–10 years of experience as an electrician working for an Electrical Contractor
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast paced environment
  • Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Preferred: Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
  • Preferred: Experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and central energy plant projects
  • Preferred: Knowledge and use of SKM software for fault current calculations, Arc-flash studies and labeling
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time to job sites/office locations
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including climbing, working in tight or confined spaces, operating machinery/power tools, exposure to outdoor elements and noisy environments, and moving 20–100 pounds
