About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design mechanical systems, components, or assemblies using engineering principles
- Work with project managers, engineers, and contractors to create high-level concepts and designs
- Collaborate with the team to achieve assigned project goals
- Conduct field surveys to identify existing equipment types and system capabilities
- Produce design documents, including drawings, system flow diagrams and architecture, wiring diagrams, construction details, and equipment schedules
- Deliver concepts and designs according to strict project deadlines
- Contribute to all areas of the creative process and department
- Perform work under direct supervision
- Handle basic issues and problems and refer complex issues to higher-level staff
- Assist with technical reports and related documents
- Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to team members
- Perform other assigned or required duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate degree in HVAC Technology, Building Systems Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 2–4 years' experience with building construction, especially mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or automatic temperature controls
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT
- Strong technical skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Vision and creativity
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Planning skills
- Beginning to working knowledge of the subject matter
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside the scope of work when necessary
- Travel 10–25% of the time to job sites/office locations
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and poles
- Ability to remain stationary, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- Ability to move between worksites
- Ability to perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions
- Ability to work outdoors and in precipitation, wind, low/high temperatures, and noisy environments
- Ability to adjust or move objects up to 20 pounds
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Preferred: Building Automation System design and sequence writing experience, including Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, Struxureware, or Tridium
- Preferred: HVAC design and commissioning experience with chilled water, heating water, condenser water, or steam systems
- Preferred: Higher Education and Healthcare design experience
