About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Program new robots and automation equipment
  • Modify existing software for industrial robots and custom automation equipment
  • Troubleshoot and debug existing products
  • Work with project teams to develop automation systems according to customer specifications
  • Incorporate hardware into mechanical designs and collaborate with project teams
  • Adapt electrical schematics to fulfill software requirements
  • Research and implement new technologies for ENGEL automation systems
  • Generate vendor specifications according to project requirements
  • Create and modify electrical schematics using CAD programs such as Promis, E-Plan or AutoCAD
  • Ensure systems meet safety standards for installation locations, including US and international regulations
  • Establish documentation for automation and robotic systems
  • Develop cable-management layouts for mechanical designs
  • Create final documentation packages for customers and technicians
  • Generate base software from electrical schematics
  • Create and modify software for articulated and linear industrial robots and peripheral equipment
  • Design HMI and visualization for production cells
  • Program communication protocols including EtherCAT, Ethernet, I/O Link, OPC UA, Profibus and DeviceNet
  • Troubleshoot software at production facilities and customer sites
  • Support cross-functional teams on new and existing automation projects
  • Write operator instructions, manuals and other custom-software documentation
  • Develop new features and modules for non-ENGEL-standard equipment
  • Implement new interfaces and protocol standards
  • Provide technical support to project engineering, assembly manufacturing, service technicians and customers
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned by a supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering is required or equivalent industry experience
  • Minimum of 3–5 years related experience, preferably in robotics and/or automation
  • Full understanding of electrical schematics and other technical drawings; pneumatic and mechanical drawings preferred
  • Capable of ladder logic, function block and structured text programming
  • Preferred experience with Siemens S7, Beckhoff, Allen Bradley Studio 5000, KUKA robotics and FANUC robotics
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs, various software editors, ENGEL-specific programs, C++, Java, machine simulations and SAP
  • Valid passport required
  • Ability to travel 5–15%, including travel to other countries, for periods of up to 2 weeks
  • Ability to sit, operate a computer and keyboard for more than two hours continuously
  • Hearing and listening for one to two hours at a time on a regular basis
