About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create mechanical designs, 2D drawings, and 3D models of automation cells, retrofits, and reconfigurations
  • Construct bills of materials for robots and auxiliary equipment
  • Provide general mechanical engineering support for field work
  • Act as technical lead for the mechanical engineering team
  • Oversee mechanical engineering department standards, design quality, and deliverables
  • Model custom automation equipment, including robotic end-of-arm tools and peripheral or auxiliary material-handling equipment
  • Modify and adapt existing library components for new or similar project applications
  • Develop mechanical designs according to industry safety standards
  • Develop 2D drawings for automated production cells, auxiliary equipment, and individual manufacturing parts
  • Process materials in SAP software
  • Prepare, maintain, and update bills of materials for production orders and delivered equipment
  • Submit items and equipment for procurement
  • Generate specifications to ensure ENGEL standards
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings, design reviews, factory acceptance tests, training, and other relevant meetings
  • Create documentation including spare-parts lists, layouts, and wear items
  • Provide technical support to team members throughout the company
  • Assist project quoting by providing mechanical engineering labor and material estimates
  • Assist Production Assembly and Integration personnel with pre-assembly of new builds and retrofits before shipping
  • Support cross-functional teams with documentation and clarification
  • Lead and role-model best practices, standards, and checkpoints
  • Create and maintain mechanical-engineering standards
  • Create peer reviews and quality-check methods and help arrange their use
  • Guide the mechanical engineering team on cost-effective design-for-manufacturing practices
  • Identify training needs with the Engineering Manager and assist with creating and facilitating training modules
  • Mentor the team on labor-hour estimation and time management
  • Communicate training requests and proactively escalate quality, capacity, and personnel concerns to the Engineering Manager
  • Provide feedback for annual performance reviews of the mechanical engineering team
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Mechanical engineering experience sufficient for a senior-level role
  • Experience creating mechanical designs, 2D drawings, and 3D models
  • Experience with automation cells, retrofits, reconfigurations, robots, and auxiliary equipment
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards
  • Experience constructing and maintaining bills of materials
  • Experience with SAP software for material processing
  • Ability to generate specifications according to ENGEL standards
  • Ability to provide mechanical engineering labor and material estimates for project quoting
  • Ability to support pre-assembly of new builds and retrofits
  • Ability to lead peer reviews and quality-check methods
  • Knowledge of cost-effective design-for-manufacturing practices
  • Ability to estimate labor hours and manage time
  • Ability to mentor team members and collaborate on training, standards, and processes
  • Ability to proactively escalate quality, capacity, and personnel concerns
  • Ability to provide feedback for annual performance reviews
