About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform admitting duties for all patients receiving services
  • Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
  • Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
  • Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
  • Receive and process physician orders using an overlay tool
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Operate the telephone switchboard
  • Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts
  • Develop training materials and programs for new hires
  • Provide continuing education to revenue-cycle associates
  • Develop patient access staff schedules
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support, including covering staffing issues
  • Collect point-of-service payments in emergency, outpatient, and inpatient settings
  • Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access Leadership
  • Explain treatment consent forms and obtain required signatures and witness names
  • Distribute patient education documents and designated forms
  • Review insurance eligibility responses and select applicable insurance plan codes
  • Enter benefit data to support point-of-service collections and billing
  • Pre-register patient accounts and obtain demographic and insurance information
  • Screen medical necessity using Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) software
  • Distribute and document ABNs and other designated forms and pamphlets

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1 to 3 years of experience
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States
  • Must be able to work on-site at Independence - Clarion Hospital in Clarion, PA
  • Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
  • Understanding of revenue cycle including admission, billing, payments, and denials
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance processes for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification
  • Knowledge of health insurance requirements
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or CPT or procedure codes
  • Must meet regulatory compliance requirements
