About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services
- Assign accurate medical record numbers (MRNs)
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide patient instructions and collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Use overlay tools while providing excellent customer service
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
- Meet assigned point-of-service goals
- Use quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts
- Conduct account audits and provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
- Pre-register patient accounts before visits
- Make inbound and outbound calls to obtain patient, demographic, insurance, and financial information
- Collect point-of-service collections and past-due balances, including payment plan options
- Explain consent and patient education forms, obtain signatures, and document witnesses
- Review insurance eligibility responses and select applicable insurance plan codes
- Enter benefit data to support point-of-service collections and billing processes
- Screen medical necessity using ABN software and distribute required forms and pamphlets
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1+ years of customer service experience
- High School Diploma/GED required
- CRCR required within 9 months of hire (company paid)
- Must be inquisitive and open to innovation, including AI
- Must be able to work on-site at Children's Minnesota - St. Paul Hospital in St. Paul, MN
- Must reside and be authorized to work within the United States
- Ability to meet regulatory compliance requirements
- Ability to accurately assign MRNs and complete medical necessity/compliance checks
- Ability to collect and process insurance, demographic, and patient financial information
- Ability to operate telephone switchboard and use insurance verification, ABN, overlay, quality auditing, and reporting systems
