About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform admitting duties for all patients admitted for hospital services
- Assign accurate MRNs
- Complete medical necessity and compliance checks
- Provide patient instructions
- Collect insurance information
- Receive and process physician orders
- Utilize an overlay tool
- Operate the telephone switchboard for incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls
- Meet point-of-service goals
- Use quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected
- Audit accounts and ensure forms are completed accurately and timely
- Provide statistical data to Patient Access leadership
- Pre-register patient accounts before visits
- Make inbound and outbound calls to obtain demographic, insurance, and patient financial liability information
- Collect point-of-service collections and past-due balances, including payment plan options
- Explain consent forms and obtain and witness required signatures
- Explain and distribute patient education and regulatory documents
- Review insurance eligibility responses and select applicable insurance plan codes
- Enter benefit data to support point-of-service collections and billing processes
- Screen medical necessity using Advanced Beneficiary Notice software
- Distribute and document designated forms and pamphlets
Requirements
What you’ll need- Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) and/or Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), company paid
- 2 Year/Associates Degree preferred
- Preferred major in healthcare administration, business administration, or related field
- 2-3 years of experience in patient access or leadership role
- Understanding of revenue cycle, including admission, billing, payments, and denials
- Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance processes for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification
- Knowledge of health insurance requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology or CPT or procedure codes
- Openness to innovation, including AI
- Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States
