About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review, revise and negotiate customer, supplier and strategic commercial contracts
- Provide pragmatic, commercially focused legal solutions for operational and strategic activities
- Support major capital investment and infrastructure projects across the Group
- Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks and guidance notes
- Support acquisitions, disposals, integration activity and development projects
- Support transformation initiatives and business change programmes
- Support corporate governance matters and post-deal integration
- Coordinate external legal advisers and manage transactions commercially
- Advise on environmental, regulatory and operational compliance matters
- Maintain and develop Group policies, controls and governance procedures
- Support enterprise risk management and governance controls
- Oversee key legal, regulatory and commercial risks
- Advise on contentious matters involving customers, suppliers and other stakeholders
- Manage external counsel relationships for litigation and disputes
- Support Employee Relations issues
- Advise IT and operational teams on data protection and privacy
- Assist with property-related legal matters across Ireland and the UK
- Act as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders across Ireland and the UK
Requirements
What you’ll need- Qualified solicitor in Ireland and/or the UK with 3+ years’ PQE gained in private practice or in-house
- Broad commercial experience, including drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- Strong understanding of one or more of general commercial law, corporate law, environmental law/regulation, or property law
- Exposure to acquisitions, disposals and property law issues beneficial
- Strong commercial judgement with ability to balance legal risk against operational and strategic objectives
- Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment with broad responsibility
- Experience within infrastructure, industrial, environmental services, energy, utilities or similarly regulated sectors advantageous
- Ability to influence at all levels and across all functions
- Strategic thinking and ability to operate as a commercial business partner
- Analytical capability, practical experience and commercial acumen
- Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity, providing objectivity, decisiveness and clarity
- Ability to challenge constructively with a positive change mentality
- Effective and confident communication with internal and external stakeholders
