About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Commission, configure, set up, and test AC and Rapid DC chargers at client sites
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on EV charging stations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues
- Conduct diagnostic tests, firmware updates, and calibration of EV chargers
- Replace faulty components and occasionally entire AC chargers according to manufacturer guidelines
- Provide on-site technical support and training to clients
- Respond promptly to service requests and maintain client communication
- Document repairs, maintenance, and customer interactions in the service management system
- Collaborate with Service Coordination, Operations, project management, and installation teams
- Maintain company assets, tools, and test equipment and report defects
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, local electrical codes, and industry standards
- Participate in required safety training and certifications
Requirements
What you’ll need- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a field-based engineering role involving commissioning, maintenance, or repair of electrical systems/equipment
- Ability to work independently on client sites and resolve technical issues without direct supervision
- Experience working under SLA-driven environments
- Familiarity with basic test and measurement equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers
- Excellent problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing complex technical issues
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer interaction
- Ability to manage time effectively while travelling between client sites
- Valid UK driving licence with 6 penalty points or less
- BS7671:2018 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) desirable
- City & Guilds 2391/2394 Testing and Inspection desirable
- Previous experience in EV charging, renewable energy, or power electronics desirable
- EV charging station certification or manufacturer-specific training desirable
- Hands-on experience commissioning, maintaining, and repairing Rapid DC, Ultra, and HPC EV chargers desirable
- Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical manuals desirable
- Understanding of analogue and digital electronics and components desirable
- Awareness of electrical hazards and on-site health and safety requirements desirable
